Executive Governor Engineer Abba Kabir Yusif has challenged opposition parties to a debate on education development.
The Commissioner of Education will meet with former Education officials from the past administration to discuss and showcase their achievements in education for public scrutiny.
Governor Abba made the statement at the flag-off and presentation of cheques to the Community Reorientation Committee (CRC) for the renovation of 440 classrooms across the state, held at the Coronation Hall, Government House.
He emphasized that the initiative aims to enhance the delivery of quality education through community involvement and participation, ensuring children have access to safe and conducive learning environments.
Engineer Abba further stated that the renovation exercise is part of the declaration of a state of emergency on education launched by his administration recently. Besides the renovation, the Government plans to construct additional classrooms across the state.
He said the Government has released ₦1.9 billion to the 44 Local Government Areas for the renovation of 440 classrooms. Governor Abba attributed the dilapidated condition of classrooms in many schools to the lack of attention from the past administration over the past eight years.
Speaking, the Executive Chairman Malam Yusif Kabir praised the involvement of community members in the project’s execution, noting that the move would ensure transparency and accountability.
He added that the State Universal Basic Education Board will monitor and supervise the project, collaborating with the CRC of 44 LGAs for successful execution.
The State CRC Chairman, Shakur Yassar, thanked Governor Abba Kabir for engaging them in contributing to education development, expressing the committee’s determination to support the move to achieve the set objectives.
In their remarks, the Chairman of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC), Alhaji Tijjani Haladu Baraya, and the Chairman of the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Baffa Ibrahim Garko, commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusif for establishing policies and programs aimed at moving the education sector forward.”
