ENSUBEB Chairman Charges Quality Assurance Evaluators to Focus on Key Performance Indicators

By JB Danlami Kano
Professor Hyginus Okibe, Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), has urged Quality Assurance evaluators to concentrate on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) when assessing teaching and learning processes, activities, and outcomes.
Speaking at the opening of a five-day capacity-building workshop for Quality Assurance officers from the 17 local government areas and some ENSUBEB staff in Enugu, Professor Okibe emphasized the importance of taking the workshop seriously.
He noted that quality assurance and evaluation in schools would no longer be a routine exercise but a thorough process that requires evaluators to physically visit schools, inspect lesson notes, and ensure alignment with the national education curriculum.
Professor Okibe reminded participants that he expects excellence and will not tolerate excuses.
He encouraged evaluators to work collaboratively with teachers to identify solutions to problems rather than merely highlighting faults.
He also stressed the need for innovation in evaluation and reporting, using visual aids like tables, pie charts, and percentages to present findings.
The Chairman emphasized the significance of quality assurance, especially with Enugu State’s migration to Smart Schools with Smart Teachers. He urged participants to present themselves as models of excellence through personal evaluation, appearance, and conduct.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Hamid Bobboyi, represented by Mr. Innocent Onyeabor, highlighted the workshop’s aim to build the capacity of Quality Assurance officers and expose them to innovations in school evaluation. He noted that the training marks the end of a three-cycle quality assurance training program commenced in 2021.
Mrs. Eze Lilian, Director of the Quality Assurance Department (ENSUBEB), welcomed participants and appreciated the state governor’s commitment to revolutionizing basic education. She praised Professor Okibe’s leadership and contributions to raising the standard of the department.
About 100 Quality Assurance evaluators are participating in the workshop, organized by ENSUBEB in collaboration with UBEC. The opening ceremony was attended by directors from ENSUBEB and officials from UBEC.”
