In a bold move to boost digital literacy and innovation among educators, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has commenced a four-day capacity-building training aimed at stimulating teachers’ resourcefulness in digital education.
The training is being held at the SBMC Hall SUBEB Headquarters, under the UBEC Teacher Professional Development (TPD) Programme for 2023 and 2024.
The training also targets Junior Secondary School teachers, Zonal Evaluators, and selected staff from the SUBEB Headquarters, while the facilitators were drawn from Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education and are being trained by certified UBEC trainers.
According to the Executive Chairman, Malam Yusuf Kabir, who made the statement through the Director of Teacher Development, Hajiya Hauwa Tanimu, the training is designed to equip educators with modern digital skills to enhance teaching and learning.
Malam Yusuf added that by the end of the program, participants are expected to make the most of their Internet connection, work effectively with images in digital learning documents, create digital documents and PowerPoint presentations, develop and use simple spreadsheets, save and share learning materials with students online using platforms such as WhatsApp and video conferencing, use keyboard shortcuts to improve efficiency, and find legally usable images online for teaching resources.
He said the initiative reflects a growing emphasis on strengthening the capacity of teachers to deliver 21st-century education and improve learning outcomes across public schools in Kano State.
Some of the participants, speaking on behalf of their colleagues, expressed appreciation to the Board for organizing the timely and impactful training.
