Teaching Primary School Pupils Agriculture and Animal Husbandry: A Step Towards Achieving Self-Reliance in the Future

In an important stakeholder meeting involving experts in education, agriculture, and animal husbandry, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), announced its commitment to ensuring that primary school pupils in the state will begin learning agricultural and animal husbandry skills as a crucial step towards self-reliance from an early stage in life.
The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Malam Yusif Kabir, through his representative, the Director of Academic Services Malam Ibrahim Yahuza, made this statement during a meeting held at the SBMC conference hall. The meeting was organized to promote education and entrepreneurship among primary school Pupils by teaching them the basics of farming and livestock keeping.

He said:, the program will give students the opportunity to understand the pathways to gainful employment and a quality life. It will help them even before they graduate, and after graduation.”
The meeting focused on strategies for teaching pupils various practices such as:Ttee planting to protect the environment and provide agricultural products, fish farming, to improve food production and create business opportunities and .raising rabbits and pigeons as quick-yielding and profitable small-scale businesses.
The chairman emphasized that teaching such vocational skills will equip pupils with practical knowledge they can use to become self-reliant in the future.
In conclusion, he expressed appreciation to UBEC for the support and funding provided to organize the event and implement the agricultural and livestock training programs in primary schools. He also acknowledged the role of stakeholders in the Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) in ensuring the success of the initiative.
Malam Yusif Kabir also took the opportunity to thank Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusif for approving the inclusion of this program in primary school curricula, aimed at improving livelihoods and creating pathways for self-reliance
