The Kano State Government has announced the recruitment of 4,000 teachers on permanent and pensionable appointments under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), alongside the engagement of 3,688 teachers on a nine-month temporary basis under the Abba Gida-Gida BESDA Cohort Five intervention.

The State Commissioner for Education, Gwani Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, made this known during a press briefing held at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Gidan Murtala, Kano.

He explained that the recruitment exercise was conducted from a pool of over 16,000 applicants who sat for a recently organized aptitude test.

According to the Commissioner, the first batch of 4,000 successful candidates had earlier been approved by His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for permanent and pensionable appointments based on their outstanding performance in the test.

He further disclosed that an additional 3,688 applicants, who also performed creditably, were approved by the Governor for temporary engagement under Abba Gida-Gida BESDA Cohort Five programme.

This, he said, is to address the shortage of teachers in public schools, meet the increasing demand for quality education, and create employment opportunities for graduates across the state.

Dr. Makoda congratulated the successful applicants and described the initiative as a strategic effort to strengthen manpower in public basic schools and enhance teaching and learning outcomes.

He also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for approving the expansion of the recruitment exercise, noting that the decision will provide more qualified youths with the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of basic education in Kano State.
