The Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), commenced a four-day training for education officials from the North-East and North-West zones to strengthen teaching quality and improve learning outcomes.
The training is taking place at Amingo Hotel, Middle Road, Sabon Gari, Kano State.
Declaring the training open on behalf of the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Aisha Garba, the Commission’s Director for the North-East Zone, Alhaji Abdullahi Jarma, said the programme was designed to equip education officials with practical knowledge and strategies to strengthen instructional delivery and improve pupils’ learning outcomes.
He explained that the initiative seeks to ensure that pupils not only understand what they are taught but are also able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to their everyday lives.
Jarma said participating states are expected to achieve specific learning targets under the programme, with national assessors subsequently conducting independent verification to validate the results reported by the states.
He added that states demonstrating outstanding improvements in children’s learning outcomes would qualify for performance-based incentives, subject to verification by the national assessment team.
In his remarks, the Programme Manager, Mr. Olumayowa Aleshil, said the initiative brings together efforts to strengthen teaching practices, improve learning outcomes and support the reintegration of out-of-school children into the classroom.
Aleshil explained that the programme, being implemented under HOPE-EDU, would equip participating states with effective approaches for improving classroom instruction while strengthening access to appropriate learning materials and textbooks.
He said the four-day training would help education officials translate these strategies into practical improvements in teaching and learning at the state, local government and school levels.
